For third country nationals who are physically present in Mauritius, who are not citizens or residents of Mauritius, Seychelles, or Reunion (FR), the U.S. Embassy in Port Louis is accepting and processing non-immigrant visa applications on Thursdays ONLY.  Minors below the age of 14 must have visa interviews booked online under their name and must be physically present on their interview day.  Non-resident applicants who schedule appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays will have their appointments cancelled without notice.  Please note that the Premium Visa issued is NOT a work/residency permit.  We cannot accept the Premium Visa as proof of residency in Mauritius.

Applicants should expect a longer wait time for scheduling an appointment and should plan accordingly.

** Important Visa Renewal Information, Due to High Demand:
You may be able to renew your U.S. visa without an interview.  Should you decide to drop your passport and application at the Embassy, you will need to schedule a drop-off appointment online on a Tuesday.  Please visit the Embassy website https://mu.usembassy.gov/visas/interview-waiver/ to see if you are eligible for a waiver.  Please read all the instructions before submitting your application.

Travel to the U.S. As of June 12, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) order requiring all persons to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States, is rescinded.  Starting at 12:01 a.m. on June 12, 2022, the CDC will no longer require air travelers to show a negative COVID-19 test result, or documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States.

CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect. For more information see Requirement for Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Air Passengers.

The purpose of your intended travel and other facts will determine what type of visa is required under U.S. immigration law. As a visa applicant, you will need to establish that you meet all requirements to receive the category of visa for which you are applying.

See our Directory of Visa Categories on usvisas.state.gov to determine which visa category might be appropriate for your purpose of travel to the United States.

The Visa Unit processes all categories of non-immigrant visas for foreign nationals wishing to travel to the United States. We do not process immigrant visas. Immigrant visa processing is handled by U.S. Consulate General Johannesburg, South Africa.

A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to enter the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport, a travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship.

Certain international travelers may be eligible to travel to the United States without a visa if they meet the requirements for visa-free travel. The Visa section of this website is all about U.S. visas for foreign citizens to travel to the United States.

(Note: U.S. citizens don’t need a U.S. visa for travel, but when planning travel abroad may need a visa issued by the embassy of the country they wish to visit.).
