In Celebration of World Ocean Day

In celebration of #WorldOceanDay, the best photos chosen in the #ZistwarNouLosean Mauritius-Rodrigues 2021 initiative have been displayed in an exciting 3D online exhibition. Take a virtual tour of the exhibition here: https://bit.ly/3g9TlAq

Supporters of the initiative are, National Geographic, U.S. Embassy Mauritius & Seychelles, Veranda Tamarin, Tamarin OceanPro Diving Centre and Patrick Montocchio, Wildlife and Nature Photographer.

#ZistwarNouLosean Mauritius-Rodrigues 2021 is inspired by National Geographic Education & Adobe mini-course #StorytellingForImpact through Photography, which Danielle, Prashant and Nikhil have enrolled in. The aim of the initiative is to spark the youth’s curiosity, get closer to our ocean and understand the importance for our islands. Getting their views and voices heard through photography is a powerful tool for raising awareness and inspire them towards ocean conservation and protection.

The #ZistwarNouLosean Mauritius-Rodrigues 2021 initially focused on a small group of young learners; however, it has turned into a National Youth Initiative, with both local and international audiences. Danielle Zelin, National Geographic Certified Educator, Prashant Mohesh, National Geographic Young Explorer #GenGeo and also Nikhil Ramdin, who recently joined National Geographic #GenGeo conversations are the organizing team behind this initiative.

#GenGeo is a National Geographic global community of young people who are leading efforts in communities around the world to help shape the conversation, drive progress, inspire hope, and action to protect our planet.

Three categories have been targeted and a jury panel chose the Best Shots in each category for the exhibition:

  • Young Photographers (8-12 yrs old)
  • Teen Photographers (13-18 yrs old)
  • GenZ Photographers (19-25 yrs old)

The exhibition will be featured on the Veranda Tamarin website and shared with the National Geographic Education and the #GenGeo community and listed as a virtual event on the World Ocean Day official website.
