Use Your Voice, Use Your Vote
Port Louis, April 29, 2019: Are you aged between 18 and 22 years old? Are you interested in politics? Will you vote for the first time in the next election? Register for the FREE Youth Political Engagement Conference organized by the Embassy of the United States of America. The key objective of this conference is to promote youth participation in elections and spur youth’s interest in politics. The event will be held at Caudan Arts Center, Port Louis, July 5-6, 2019, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Download the application form from https://mu.usembassy.gov/
You have until Friday May 17th to send the Embassy of the United States of America your application. Hard copies of application forms must be delivered to the U.S. Embassy, Rogers House, 4th Floor, Port-Louis no later than Friday, May 17, 2019 at 11: 30. CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS:
Applicants must:
- be between the ages of 18-22
- be citizens of the Republic of Mauritius
- be seriously interested in the topic
- be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
- have strong social and communication skills
- commit to attend the conference in its entirety
PROGRAM:
During the two days’ conference, a plethora of guest speakers will cover the following modules:
Module 1: History of Mauritius from a political perspective
Module 2: The electoral system – From basics to the electoral reform
Module 3: Mainstream political parties: History, ideology, evolution and vision for the future
Module 4: From mainstream to alter politics: citizen platforms, movements and alternative modes of thinking/doing politics
Module 5: The Constitution, key legislations and the operations of the National Assembly
Module 6: “Chansons engagées” – The role and importance of artistic expression in Mauritian politics
Module 7: Youth and Politics – An American Perspective
Module 8: Forum debate
