Education USA Pre-Departure Orientation Program

Wednesday July 19, 2017 – Macarty House, Vacoas

Each year, the U.S. Embassy sponsors its Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) program for all students who have been accepted into undergraduate/graduate programs at various universities and colleges in the United States that start that Fall, including Fulbright and Humphrey Exchange participants.  The PDO is hosted by the Embassy’s EducationUSA advising center.

This year, 26 students and their parents are expected to attend this popular, annual send-off. However, more than 30 students will begin their studies in 2017. This is an informal opportunity for attendees to ask questions, meet other students and be recognized for their achievement. Topics will include information on visas and international students’ status, culture shock, U.S. classroom culture, and information about what students can expect when they arrive in the U.S. for the first time.

FAST FACTS

  • There are currently 250 Mauritian students studying in the United States
