Alert for U.S. Citizens: State of Emergency Declared in Victoria, Seychelles

Dear U.S. Citizens,

The U.S. Embassy in Port Louis, Mauritius, has received notification this morning that the Office of the President of the Republic of Seychelles has declared a State of Emergency following an explosion at the CCCL explosives store in the Providence industrial area and the surrounding areas, as well as major destruction caused by flooding due to heavy rains.

The Government of Seychelles has asked all residents, except citizens traveling and workers in essential services, to stay home or in a safe place to clear the roads for workers in the emergency services to carry out essential work.  In addition, the Ministry of Health has issued an alert warning members of the public not to go into the sea for leisure activities as a precautionary public health measure, until further notice due to contamination by flood water.

U.S. citizens in the affected areas should contact loved ones and/or update their status on social media.  Please monitor local news and local emergency instructions.
